October 30 through November 1, 2022
Months of planning had gone into the Youth Camp to be held at the Bagongdong Church of Christ in Iloilo, Philippines. The theme for the camp was “Encounter with Christ” and by the time October 30 had come 154 had registered for the event. Juanito Magbanua and others spent the week leading up to camp erecting additional structures to provide shelter for the event and preparing a place to set up tents to provide sleeping accommodations for the young people.
Unfortunately, a few days before the conference was to begin, typhoon Paeng moved into the region. In the two days leading up to the event Iloilo City received at least six inches of rain each day and heavy rain was forecast for the event.
The organizers prayed for relief from the storm’s effects during the conference and decided to proceed, rain or shine. Many were prevented from attending the camp as roads were closed because of the flooding, but 118 who lived near enough braved the storm and attended the camp.
Rain continued to come down on October 30, the first day of the camp, but not as severely as before. They were very crowded in the small church as they couldn’t be outside as planned. They even set up the sleeping tents inside the church building. By the end of the three-day camp the rain had stopped and the sun came out. They reported a successful camp and plan to have another.
